FOUR IN A ROW: On Sunday, Eckerd won its fourth straight match to open this season, scoring three times in the first half on the way to a 4-1 victory over Clayton State (Ga.).
Matheus Assumpcao scored two goals and added an assist to lead the way for the Tritons.
TAKING DOWN A TOP 10: The last time that Eckerd hosted a team ranked in the top 10 of the NSCAA Division II poll, the Tritons walked away with a win. EC bested then-No. 10 Barry (Fla.) on October 7 of last year, 2-1.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Eckerd and Saint Leo faced off last year in the final match of the regular season with the SSC Regular Season Championship on the line. The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Tritons pulled back within a goal in the 69th minute after two second-half scores by
Richard Ainscough. However, Eckerd couldn't find the equalizer and SLU added a late insurance goal to clinch the conference title with a 4-2 win.
STINGY DEFENSE: The Triton defense ranks among the best in the SSC in goals allowed average. Eckerd has given up just two goals in four contests, ranking second in average to Florida Tech which has allowed one goal in three matches. Eckerd keeper
Alex Gott tops the conference in save percentage having stopped 88.2 percent of the attempts he has faced this season.
