ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A tropical storm won't delay the start of the 2016 Eckerd College Invitational as the Triton volleyball squad welcomes four teams to the annual event.
The Tritons, coming off their eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, open their season on Friday taking on UNC-Pembroke at 3:00 PM. EC then faces the University of New Haven (Conn.) at 7:30 PM before taking on Kentucky State and Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.
Eckerd defeated UNC-Pembroke in straight sets last season in St. Petersburg. The Tritons also faced Oklahoma Baptist last year at Nova Southeastern, dropping a five-set decision to the Bison.
Both New Haven and Kentucky State were NCAA Tournament qualifiers last year along with Eckerd. OBU won 27 matches and finished second in Great American Conference, but was post-season ineligible as the Bison make the transition to NCAA from the NAIA.
