ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The women's tennis team opened day one of three straight match dates at the Fred Bullard Courts against Warner and was swept by the Royals, 9-0.
The No. 1 doubles duo of
Emily Fridrik and
MaryAnn Aaron took their opponents, Nhatalia Ocampo and Fernanda Correa, to the limit but were unable to capture the victory. The match had to be decided in a tiebreaker as pair from Warner (3-3) took the point, 8-7 (7-4).
On the singles side,
Laurence Bourgault fought hard for an EC (1-3) point before coming up just short in three sets. She was victorious in set one, 6-4, but went on to drop the next two sets, 6-3, 10-6.
Triton head coach
Ben Maxwell once again complimented his women for battling until the end.
"We had a tough one today, but they made me proud as they continued to fight," he said.
The Tritons return to action tomorrow as they open conference play against the ITA No. 3 Saint Leo Lions. The match is scheduled for an 11:00 AM start.
