Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Offense was certainly not in short supply on Tuesday night at the Turley Athletic Complex as the Eckerd baseball team racked up 20 hits on the way to an 18-8 win over Saint Anselm (N.H.) University.
Eckerd (6-4) did most of its damage during the third, fourth and fifth innings, scoring 12 runs on 15 hits in the three frames. Â
Saint Anselm (1-6) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third after a two-out triple scored two runs. That lead was short-lived, though, as the Tritons responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning followed by three in the fourth and seven in the fifth.
Rowdy Andrews had another big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a career-high six RBIs that included a bases-loaded double in the fifth.Â
Nick Hill finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the first inning.Â
Tom Buonopane also went 3-for-4 while
Lucas Luopa,
Jake O'Rourke and
Matt MacMahon each had two hits. Luopa had a two-run single as part of the fifth inning outburst.
Zach Mitsmenn followed Andrews's double in the fifth with a two-run home run, his first of the season.
EC head coach
Juan Ranero used nine pitchers in the game, each working an inning.Â
Nick Alonzo (1-0) was credited with the win after retiring the side in order in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts.Â
Kevin Kane,
Mike Eagan and
Zach Hoppe also tossed scoreless innings for Eckerd.
The 18 runs are the most scored in a game by Eckerd since a 20-3 win over Clearwater Christian on February 5, 2013.
The Tritons return to conference play this weekend with a visit to Nova Southeastern for a weekend series beginning on Friday with first pitch at 6:00 PM.
