ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's tennis team competed in its first match in a week as California Lutheran visited in a cross-country matchup.
After a long rain delay, the Regals (7-2) defeated the Tritons (1-7) with a 9-0 sweep at the Bullard Courts.
The No. 1 doubles pairing of
Emily Fridrik and
MaryAnn Aaron battled against Sarah Seeman and Emily Werman at the top spot, but fell in a hard-fought 9-7 decision that could have gone either way.
Head coach
Ben Maxwell was also proud of his No. 6 singles player,
Gabrielle Hartman, who fell in 3-setter, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.
"I am very proud of her effort today despite not feeling well," he said. "She played really well despite it and showed guts."
The Tritons have a short turnaround as the Merrimack Warriors visit St. Petersburg on Sunday. The match is set for a 1:00 PM start time.
