ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The regular season wraps up today for the Eckerd women's basketball team as the Tritons visit Barry University for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
Â
ABOUT THE BUCS: Barry has one of the largest senior classes in the conference with nine players set to be honored on their senior day. That experience has proven to be a plus this season for the Bucs, who need a win today in order to secure fourth place in the SSC standings heading into next week's conference tournament. They are a very dangerous perimeter team, leading the SSC in 3-point percentage making 40.9 percent of their attempts. They've also made more 3's than anyone else in conference with 229.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Barry closed the game on a 16-6 run for a 67-57 win over Eckerd in the McArthur Center on January 16.Â
Ashley Folsom led Eckerd with 17 points while
Anna Deegan had 12. Barry went 10-of-14 from 3-point range and was led by Amra Elezovic's 29 points.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: No matter what, the Tritons will go on the road for the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday. Their seed, however, depends on the outcome of today's game. A win would give Eckerd the No. 6 seed while a loss would result in the No. 7 seed. EC will travel to either Florida Southern or Florida Tech on Wednesday,
KEY MATCHUP: Guarding the perimeter will be important for Eckerd against the SSC's best 3-point shooting team. Barry shot 71 percent from behind the arc in the first meeting of the season, stretching the defense to open up lay-ups down the stretch as the Bucs pulled away for the win. The Tritons will need to work to take away open looks from outside in order to pull off a key road win.
