ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's basketball team takes its seven-game winning streak to Tampa on Sunday and Monday to play in the University of Tampa Invitational against a pair of south region opponents.
Â
ABOUT MILES: The Golden Bears (2-7) enter the week on the heels of a four-game losing streak with their last two losses coming to SSC members Lynn (81-65) and Florida Southern (92-76). Â One of their two victories was a 74-69 upset of then-No. 16 West Georgia on November 22. Â Chauncey Day is the team's only player averaging in double figures, scoring 11.2 points per game. Â Shaquille Cook is close behind with 9.8 points per contest while Javier McKinney (9.1) and Joshua Johnson (9.0) help round out a balanced offense.
ABOUT LANE: The Dragons (4-5) will face Tampa on Sunday before taking on Eckerd on Monday. Â Despite its record, Lane has been competitive in every one of its contests this season with three of its five losses coming by single digits. Â The team relies heavily on four players for the majority of its scoring production with Maurice Alexander (15.1), Terrance Bridgeman (14.4), Montez Williams (13.1) and Kendaruis Ash (10.8) all averaging in double figures.
STREAKING AGAIN: The Tritons won 16 games in a row last season and have put together a seven-game winning streak early this season. Â Eckerd has done it, for the most part, with rebounding and defense. Â The Tritons hold a plus-11.7 rebounding margin and a plus-15.6 scoring margin during the streak.
WALSH FOR 3: Senior guard
Kevin Walsh continues his climb up the career ladder for the most 3-pointers made in program history. Â The Arlington Heights, Illinois, native is tied for fourth all-time with 170 3's and needs 13 more to move into third place. Â If he shoots at the same pace he did last year, he will have a chance to break Steve Berg's career record of 220.
