Triton Comeback Falls Short at Embry-Riddle

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit and nearly forced a fifth set, but instead lost its fifth straight match on Tuesday night falling at Embry-Riddle, 3-1.

The Tritons found themselves in trouble in the third set, trailing 10-1 after losing the first two sets.  But a run of five straight points helped narrow the gap, and EC  later rolled off six straight points behind the production of Mackenzie Redner and Kali Boatwright.  Redner had two aces and a kill while Boatwright had three kills in the run, pushing Eckerd to a 22-20 lead in the set.

EC closed the door on Embry-Riddle to extend the match, finishing with another Boatwright kill and an Eagle attack error for a 25-22 set win.

The Tritons (15-12) fought back again from an early deficit in the fourth set, overcoming a 16-11 Eagle advantage by winning points on seven of eight rallies to take a 20-18 lead.

After ERAU briefly retook the lead, Eckerd won three straight points to reach set point at 24-22.  However, Embry-Riddle broke set point three times and put the match away with three consecutive points for a 28-26 win.

The Eagles (13-12) took a 2-0 match lead after scoring wins of 25-18 and 25-19 in the first two sets, pulling away late in the first set and building an early lead in the second.

Boatwright had a career night despite the loss with 23 kills while recording her eighth double-double of the season with 15 digs.  Gabriella Reis also posted a new career-high with 35 digs which, along with 38 assists, also gave her a double-double.

Redner was the only other Triton to reach double-digits in kills with 10, while Kaitlyn Sibson had 25 digs.

The Tritons return home this weekend to wrap up their home schedule hosting Rollins on Friday at 7:00 PM and Embry-Riddle on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
