Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit and nearly forced a fifth set, but instead lost its fifth straight match on Tuesday night falling at Embry-Riddle, 3-1.
The Tritons found themselves in trouble in the third set, trailing 10-1 after losing the first two sets. Â But a run of five straight points helped narrow the gap, and EC Â later rolled off six straight points behind the production of
Mackenzie Redner and
Kali Boatwright. Â Redner had two aces and a kill while Boatwright had three kills in the run, pushing Eckerd to a 22-20 lead in the set.
EC closed the door on Embry-Riddle to extend the match, finishing with another Boatwright kill and an Eagle attack error for a 25-22 set win.
The Tritons (15-12) fought back again from an early deficit in the fourth set, overcoming a 16-11 Eagle advantage by winning points on seven of eight rallies to take a 20-18 lead.
After ERAU briefly retook the lead, Eckerd won three straight points to reach set point at 24-22. Â However, Embry-Riddle broke set point three times and put the match away with three consecutive points for a 28-26 win.
The Eagles (13-12) took a 2-0 match lead after scoring wins of 25-18 and 25-19 in the first two sets, pulling away late in the first set and building an early lead in the second.
Boatwright had a career night despite the loss with 23 kills while recording her eighth double-double of the season with 15 digs. Â
Gabriella Reis also posted a new career-high with 35 digs which, along with 38 assists, also gave her a double-double.
Redner was the only other Triton to reach double-digits in kills with 10, while
Kaitlyn Sibson had 25 digs.
The Tritons return home this weekend to wrap up their home schedule hosting Rollins on Friday at 7:00 PM and Embry-Riddle on Saturday at 4:00 PM.Â
