Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - On Tuesday, the Eckerd men's soccer team knocked off a nationally-ranked opponent but couldn't repeat the feat on Saturday, dropping a 2-0 decision at No. 10 Lynn (Fla.).
The Fighting Knights (10-1-1, 5-1-1 SSC) scored early in each half, making the most of what were limited opportunities in on-frame chances. Â Lynn took only four shots on goal in the match.
Jack Watson, the SSC's leading goal-scorer, added to his total in the 16th minute as he finished a short cross from Simon Kraemer for his 13th goal of the season.
Eckerd (6-3-2, 2-3-1 SSC) looked to equalize the match heading toward the half, but shots from
Juan David Tejada and
Matheus Assumpcao were turned away by Lynn keeper Alexander Roth.
The Knights made it a two-goal lead shortly after halftime when Bruno Militz punched in a cross from Dominic Docherty on the first opportunity of the half for either side.
Lynn's defense made it difficult for Eckerd to work toward cutting into the deficit, holding the Tritons to three shots in the second half; all three were stopped by Roth.
"The damage was done in the first half when we struggled a little," said EC head coach
Ian Cameron. Â "The possession we had in the second half was afforded to us by Lynn, who was comfortable playing on the counter. Â We huffed and puffed but created too few chances."
"As expected, that was a very strong and effective Lynn team and as a program, we have some work to do to be able to come here and win."
The Tritons had more shots on goal (6-4), but Roth turned back all six of EC's chances.
Eckerd returns home on Tuesday to host Florida Tech in a non-conference match at Ian Johnson Field at 7:00 PM.
