ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The second half of the Sunshine State Conference slate gets underway tonight for the Eckerd women's basketball team as the Tritons travel to face Saint Leo tonight at 5:30 PM.

ABOUT THE LIONS- Despite a 1-8 start to their SSC schedule, Saint Leo gave No. 10 Nova Southeastern a very tough test on Saturday. The contest was tied at 51-51 after three quarters before the Sharks opened the final quarter on a 12-0 run to put the game away.
- The Lions feature the conference's top scorer in Chelsy Springs, a 5-foot-9 junior who averages 17.1 points per game. She proved difficult for Eckerd to stop in the first meeting of the season, going for 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Orlando native has posted six double-doubles on the season.
- Sophomore guard Mary Redmond has emerged as a scoring threat in recent games, averaging 11.3 points per game over her last seven. She netted 17 points in her first start of the season on January 2, going 4-of-8 from 3-point range in a win over Palm Beach Atlantic.
- Saint Leo enters tonight's game having lost 10 of its last 11 and sits in eighth place in the conference standings, one game ahead of Lynn.
ABOUT THE TRITONS- Eckerd split a pair of non-conference games last week against provisional SSC opponents. On Wednesday, EC scored the final 14 points of the game in a 70-58 win over Embry-Riddle before returning home on Saturday to drop a 71-64 decision to Palm Beach Atlantic.
- The Tritons have been solid on the road this season, going 5-3 in games away from the McArthur Center.

Anna Deegan continues to shoot the ball effectively from 3-point range, knocking down 36.7 percent of her attempts this season. The transfer from Bonner Springs, Kansas, has caught fire after a slow start, shooting 55.1 percent from behind the arc over her last eight games while averaging 10.0 points per game. She has made two or more 3's in seven of those eight contests.

Ashley Folsom grabbed 12 rebounds on Saturday, the second-most by a Triton in a game this season. She is the fourth EC player to reach double-digits in rebounding along with
Kacie Juday,
Victoria Vine and
Anna Deegan.
LOOKING BACKEckerd opened the SSC schedule against Saint Leo on November 18 in the McArthur Center and jumped out to an 18-point halftime lead en route to a 68-51 win. The Tritons got a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds from
Victoria Vine and 14 points from
Margaret Sundberg in the victory while shooting 47.7 percent from the floor.
