Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - It was close the entire night, but No. 16 Palm Beach Atlantic pulled away late in each set to pick up a straight-sets win over the Eckerd Triton volleyball team on Friday night (25-23, 25-23, 25-22).
PBAU (8-2) pulled ahead in the first set, building a 19-12 lead before the Tritons came roaring back to within one point behind the attacking of
Lauryn Nelson and
JaQuayla Baker. The Sailfish, though, took the final point and the first set by a narrow two-point margin.
Eckerd (5-5) was in good position to take the second set, leading 23-22, before the Sailfish took the last three points on kills by Emma Ballantyne and Ally Rohn. The Tritons had an early five-point lead but couldn't hold it as PBAU quickly overcame the deficit to move ahead 13-12. From there, the set saw five ties before the hosts closed it out.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair much like the first two. Palm Beach Atlantic surged ahead late, 20-16, only for the Tritons to get back within two points. However, they couldn't get closer as a Rohn kill completed the straight-sets victory.
Katie Arnette led the attack with nine kills while
Tjasa Kotnik had eight. Nelson and Baker both had seven apiece.
Emily Schadow (15) and Gabrielle Reis Guilamares (14) combined for 29 assists.
Kaitlyn Sibson had 14 digs to pace the back row.
The Tritons finish off the weekend road trip with a 4:00 PM match tomorrow at Barry University.
