Box ScoreSAINT LEO, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's tennis team dropped their fifth conference match of the season to a highly skilled No. 5 Saint Leo squad, 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.
After more than a week of practice, the Lions proved to be too much to handle for the Tritons (6-9, 0-5) on the court.
Juniors
Yosua Adiyasa and
Frazier Springfield paired off with the No. 7 ranked doubles duo of Alex Theiler and Bruno Sisti. Battling from the No. 1 slot, Adiyasa and Springfield were shutout, going down 8-0.
The tandem of
Stephen Felman and
Victor Appelqvist owned the No. 2 slot, managing to grab three games before falling to the competition, 8-3.
Eddie Lewis paired up with
Jonathan Cheng to take home three games as well from the No. 3 slot.
In singles action, the Lions were able to nab the sweep winning every match in straight set decisions.
Appelqvist came close to a victory in singles, but was edged out by Oskar Nurmio, 6-4 and 7-5 from the No. 4 slot.
"I am proud of the fight that our team showed on the court today," said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell. "Victor worked extremely hard and it was tough to see him take the loss."
EC will have a day of practice before taking the courts again traveling to Winter Park to take on No. 12 Rollins College. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
