Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team dropped a nine-inning affair to St. Thomas University (Fla.) on Monday night, 18-4.
Both teams were quiet in the first inning before the Bobcats got on the board first bringing two runs home in the top of the second.
Carter Cashman cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the same inning with a leadoff bomb to left field.
Zach Mitsmenn sent a two out double down the right field line to plate
Matt MacMahon to tie the ball game at 2-2.
MacMahon gave his team a one run lead in the next inning driving a double into right field bringing around
Nick Hill. The slim lead did not last long with STU unloading for six runs on four hits in the top of the fourth.
The Bobcats would tack on 10 more runs before the game was all said a done. Cashman gave the Triton fans a reason to stand up and cheer when the junior sent his second long ball of the game over the left centerfield wall. Cashman leads the team with four home runs on the year while hitting .316.
MacMahon garnered two hits and an RBI while Mitsmenn also tallied a multi-hit game grabbing his second double of the season.
Ben Deaver was tagged in the loss moving his record to 1-2 on the year.
Eckerd (16-22, 4-12) will play the final game of their current eight game home stand on Tuesday afternoon. EC is set to host Northwood University with first pitch set for 6 pm.
