Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish defeated the Eckerd College men's tennis team, 7-2 on Sunday during their final match of the season.
The Tritons mirrored yesterday's performance against the Tars today. The No. 2 doubles team of
Stephen Felman and
Victor Appelqvist along with
Connor Masella from the No. 6 slot in singles play took home the wins for EC.
Felman and Appelqvist grabbed their team leading ninth victory of the year. The pair competed in a close match, downing Mark Heimberger and Matt Leeds, 9-7.
"Stephen and Victor fought through a tough match to win and I couldn't be happier with their performance," said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell.
The final victory of the day belonged to Masella. The freshman defeated Fernando Arroyo, 8-5, in single pro-set format.
"Connor competed against a very tough opponent and implemented his game really nicely to take home the win," added Maxwell.
Felman,
Mark Scafidi, and
Luke Burton said goodbye to the Dick Bullard Court for the last time. The trio of seniors led the team to one of the best seasons in the past four years.
"It has been a good year and I am proud of the men. This season showed us that we can compete with some tough opponents and we continue to improve every year."
