ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Ferris State University proved to be too much to handle shutting out the Eckerd College women's tennis team, 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Tritons (1-3, 0-2 SSC) were coming off their first win of the season earlier in the week against John Carroll University as they continued in non-conference play against the Bulldogs.
"We played a very tough Ferris State team today and I am proud of the effort from the girls as they fought hard until the end." said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell.
In doubles action,
Gipson Hawn and
Amy Naula just missed picking up a victory as they were slighted, 8-6. The duo battled valiantly against Noelly Longi Nsimba and Olga Matineson but failed to pull out the win.
EC pitched the same familiar lineup in singles, but the Bulldogs were able to claim straight-set decisions in all six matchups.
Senior
Katie Benn was able to emerge with five games in the second set against her opponent in the No. 5 singles draw, fighting to a 7-5 final against Arien Kissinger before bowing out.
EC will have a light practice tomorrow before competing in three consecutive matches starting Tuesday.
The women look to get back to action on Tuesday as they play host to Merrimack College. The match will start at 2 p.m.
