FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Competing against the No. 4 team in the nation, the Eckerd College women's tennis team fell, 7-0 on Friday afternoon, while the final two matches were washed out due to rain.
Wind and rain made an impact in the matches as the Tritons (5-8, 0-4) fought tough against the Sharks (15-0, 5-0), but failed to scrap out a victory.
"Nova is a very tough team this year and there is a reason they are top five in the country," said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell. "The team battled hard through bad winds and consistent light rain and I am proud of the way they fought."
The teams took the courts for doubles action and were sidelined for over an hour due to heavy rains. Once the squads got back on the courts, Nova proved their worth in doubles, sweeping EC, 8-3, 8-1, and 8-2.
Gipson Hawn had the daunting task of taking on the No. 25 player in the nation. Competing in the No. 1 singles slot, Petra Jurova defeated Hawn in straight set decisions, 6-2 and 6-0.

Katie Benn were unable to finish their matches from the No. 2 and No. 6 slots as the heavy rains came down. Trapp dropped set one, 6-1, but was up in set two, 4-3, when the storm struck.
The Tritons will face another tough opponent, taking on No. 2 Barry University on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
