Women’s Tennis Sweeps Singles Action for 7-2 Victory

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's tennis team earned their third victory of the spring in a 7-2 defeat over West Chester University of Pennsylvania on Thursday afternoon.

The Tritons (3-4, 0-2) fell behind to West Chester 2-1 after the conclusion of doubles play, but a flawless performance in singles action secured the win for the Tritons.

"The women had a great win today after starting out slow in doubles," said Head Coach, Ben Maxwell. "Amy Naula and Katie Benn were both extremely focused in their singles matches and I am proud of their effort."

Seniors Carson Trapp and Katie Benn defeated Stephanie Cifarelli and Sammy Markey in a commanding 8-1 performance to claim the Tritons lone doubles win. Trapp and Benn have now won three straight matches in doubles play.

Gipson Hawn opened up singles competition in the No.1 slot by defeating Claire Uhle, 6-3 and 6-4, and the rest of the squad followed suit as Trapp, Emily Fridrik, Naula, Benn, and Erika Fridrik took home their respective wins.

Em. Fridrik defeated West Chester opponent Abriana Nolan for her second singles win of the year, 6-1 and 6-2, while Er. Fridrik, Benn, and Naula each picked up their fourth.

Eckerd will continue its schedule at home on Saturday against Bentley University at 10 a.m.
