Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Meeting for the second time this season, the Eckerd College men's basketball team was ousted by Lynn University on Saturday night, 74-64.
The Tritons (11-10, 4-7) and Fighting Knights (15-5, 8-3) met earlier in the year with Lynn taking home the victory in a thrilling overtime matchup.
Eckerd was off to a quick start as
Malcolm Brunner Jr. and
Jerrick Stevenson netted two points apiece on back to back possessions. Lynn quickly gathered their composure and showed their strength going on a 16-2 run over the Tritons.
A monster steal by
Shane Phillips with the dish out to
E.J. Moody gave the Tritons the confidence they needed as they crawled their way back into the contest. With less than six minutes remaining in the half, Moody dropped in two foul shots to bring the Tritons within two of the Knights.
Lynn sank in one last bucket with seconds on the clock, sending the Tritons into the locker room down by seven, 37-30.
The second half became a game of free throws as the two teams combined for a total of 35 fouls.
With seven minutes remaining in the contest,
Kevin Walsh sunk in one of two free throws to bring the Tritons within four. Lynn's defense proved to be too strong as the Knights held the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Freshman
Keshawn Ingram continued to shine off the bench as he threw down 13 points in the second half. Stevenson ended the night with 19 points while Moody wasn't far behind with 16.
Eckerd will head over the bridge to take on the University of Tampa Wednesday as they look to get back on track. The Tritons will tip-off with the Spartans at 7:30 p.m.
