Tritons Grab Victory in Final Home Game

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In the final home game of the season, the Eckerd College women's basketball team walked away with a 66-50 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday.

The Tritons took control of the ball game very early. EC jumped out to 13-0 lead with the Sailfish being held scoreless through the first seven minutes of the contest. Buckets by Ivana Grbic, Trine Kasemagi and a three from Margaret Sundberg had their team off and running.

Kayla Bowlin was in the assist zone collecting six in the first half. The guard found fellow seniors Rana Thomas and Grbic several times in the first 20 minutes resulting in 13 points. Thomas, Bowlin and Kasemagi went into halftime with nine points each under their belt and a 42-23 lead.

Kasemagi picked up where she left off to start the second half scoring six straight points. Her streak was ended with a three pointer from Thomas with the Tritons coming out to the tune of a 9-2 run.

As the clock wound down and EC had a comfortable 62-45 lead, seniors Grbic and Thomas were subbed out walking off the court together. One minute later the crowd rose to their feet once again as Bowlin walked off the court for the final time in the McArthur Center. The young players took the floor securing the team's 66-50 victory.

Thomas led all scorers with 16 points in her final home appearance. Kasemagi ended the night with 15 points and seven rebounds. Bowlin continued her drive to 400 assists dishing out seven in the game while scoring 10 points. Grbic fell two points shy of a double-double with 10 boards and eight points.

"I am so proud of this senior class," said Head Coach, Paul Honsinger. "I watched two of them blossom since freshman year and I was lucky enough to add Ivana as a junior. To be able to send those three off with a win feels amazing."

"Keeping the momentum and the win streak going heading into the conference tournament is really big," added Honsinger. "We've got to keep working hard because the seasons not over."

The seniors end their regular season career with a program record 22 wins this season. The trio are also key players in the winningest four years in program history grabbing over 60 wins and a .575 winning percentage.

Eckerd (22-6, 11-5) will head to Kissimmee for the start of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament beginning Thursday. Eckerd will be the No. 3 seed taking on the No. 6 seed Florida Southern College with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m. More information will be available on Monday at Eckerdtritons.com.
