ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In their second match of the season the Eckerd College women's tennis team fell to No. 10 Florida Southern, 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
"The girls played close with FSC and there were a lot of positives from today," said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell. "We fought hard in singles and
Katie Benn and
Erika Fridrik had close and winnable matches."
In doubles action, the duo of
Katie Benn and
Carson Trapp took home the lone EC victory of the day, 8-2. The win marks the first of the season for the pair as well as the first Triton victory.
Maxwell went on to say, "Trapp and Benn had a great win today from the No. 3 doubles slot and I was very proud of the fight they showed."
While Eckerd took home no singles matches, the girls fought extremely hard. Benn took Florida Southern's Cassie Eldredge to consecutive extra sets falling 7-5 both times. Fridrik was also close to taking a match from the Mocs as she battled until the end falling, 6-3 and 7-5.
"We will use the rest of the week to clean up some mistakes to get ready for Warner on Saturday," said Maxwell.
The Tritons look to grab their first win of the season this Saturday as they are set to host Warner University. The match will be held at the Dick Bullard Courts beginning at 11 a.m.
