No. 4 Barry Tops Eckerd

Box Score

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's basketball team took on their second consecutive top five nationally ranked opponent on Saturday, falling to No. 4 Barry University, 85-70.

The Tritons got on the board first with free throws from Jerrick Stevenson which was followed up by a layup from Kevin Walsh. Barry jumped out to take a lead, but Ray Darnell knocked down a jumper to make it a one point game, 12-11, with just under 12 minutes left in the half.

The Bucs then ripped off 19 unanswered points over the next six minutes of play. Darnell ended the EC scoring drought dropping in four straight points. A three pointer by Matt Beneduci made it a 14 point game with the Tritons heading into halftime down 38-24.

Eckerd worked their way back into the game in the second half closing the gap to 12 points at the 13:54 mark with Darnell laying it in off the glass. Altavious Carter kept his team in the game with a deep three, followed by successful free throws from Shane Phillips.

A big three coming from Keshawn Ingram in the corner got his team within 10 of the Bucs with just under three minutes left to play. That would be as close as EC would get with Barry taking the game 85-70.

Darnell ended the night leading his team in scoring with 15 points and six rebounds. Stevenson went 5 for 5 from the free throw line totaling 13 points in the contest.

Eckerd (11-14, 4-11) will finish up the regular season at home starting on Wednesday against Saint Leo University (12-14, 4-10). The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
