ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's tennis team open up conference play on a brisk Friday afternoon as they fell to No. 7 Lynn, 8-1.
The match comes after the season opener less than a week ago. Eckerd (0-2, 0-1 SSC) picked up one doubles victory but fell to the Fight Knights (4-1, 2-1) in the other eight matches.
The duo of
Eddie Lewis and
Connor Masella took home the lone win of the day in a closely contested match at the No. 3 doubles slot, 8-6. The victory marked the second win of the year for the young pair who are now 2-0 on the season in doubles action.
"Lewis and Masella had a great win in doubles today and I couldn't be happier with their performance," said Head Coach,
Ben Maxwell. "The two stayed focused and got the job done."
Victor Appelqvist and
Stephen Felman fought hard in the No. 2 doubles slot but could not derail the tandem of Daniel Riggs and Fernando Rivas succumbing to the duo, 8-4.
Yosua Adiyasa faced off with All-SSC First Team selection in Riggs at the No. 1 slot while Felman manned the No. 2 slot.
"I was very proud of the men today, we showed a lot of progress and will continue working on the things we need to work on before Florida Southern next week," added Maxwell.
The Tritons will face off with Florida Southern next Thursday at home with match time set for 3 p.m.
