Women’s Basketball Announces Play for Kay Pink Game

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Wednesday's game between the Eckerd College women's basketball team and Florida Southern College will have a bigger meaning than just basketball.

Eckerd will be participating in the Play for Kay initiative. Coach Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

The Tritons will boast pink uniforms for the game and encourage fans to show their support by wearing pink in the stands. All proceeds for the contest will be donated to the Play for Kay Foundation. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the men's game set to follow.
