Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. - Battling back from a two-goal deficit, the Eckerd College women's soccer team forced overtime on the road against Rollins College.
Unfortunately, the comeback fell short thanks to a penalty kick early in the first overtime period as the Tars held off the Tritons, 3-2.
Down 2-0 with just over 20 minutes left in regulation, the Tritons staged a rally that started with a
Katie Shafer goal - her first of the season - in the 69th minute off a cross from
Abby Sanchez. Shafer fought through traffic to send a header past Rollins keeper Mary Spring.
Taylor Tippett then equalized the match in the 80th minute on a pass from
Shannon Estes-Larkin that Tipppett send into the net on a hard, low shot.
Neither team could get the winning goal in regulation, but Rollins caught an opening in the 91st minute when Kathryn O'Brien was taken down in the box for a penalty. Paxton Sickler took the kick, and finished past
Angelique Ulmer for the golden goal.
The match was scoreless until under a minute remaining in the first half when Rollins (7-2, 3-1) found the back of the net on an Ali Jenkins free kick from distance bounced through the box untouched. Sickler then made it 2-0 in the 61st minute after she collected a loose ball in the box and sent it past Ulmer.
Rollins held a 22-14 advantage in shots, although shots on goal were much more even at 8-6 in favor of the Tars. Ulmer stopped five shots for Eckerd (4-4-1, 1-3).
The Tritons return to action on Wednesday as they travel to face Barry University in Miami Shores at 7:00 PM.
