Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's basketball team suffered their second loss at home of the season
on Saturday to Barry University, 53-44.
After struggling with three point shots on Wednesday, the Tritons wasted no time knocking down their first trey early with
Margaret Sundberg giving her team a 7-4 lead. EC kept their three point lead until Barry tied the game up 12-12 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
Trine Kasemagi was able to get going underneath the basket with passes from
Kayla Bowlin. Kasemagi scored four consecutive points putting Eckerd back out in front. The Buccaneers managed to grab the lead going up 21-18.
Bowlin led a fierce 11-2 run to end the first half scoring five points and dishing out two assists to give the Tritons a 29-23 lead heading into halftime. The six point lead was the largest for either team in the first 20 minutes.
Kasemagi put EC out in front to start the final 20 minutes of the contest putting in six points on three consecutive possessions. Barry refused to go away and took their first lead of the second half, 40-38, with 10 minutes to play.
Victoria Vine hit a deep three to bring her team within one, but the Buccaneers would not be denied. Barry held the Eckerd offense scoreless for the next four minutes until
Rana Thomas ended the drought with a jumper. EC was unable to hit their shots in the final minutes falling to Barry, 53-44, snapping their five game win streak.
Kasemagi led the Tritons in scoring with 16 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Bowlin finished with eight points and tossed out six assists.
Eckerd (14-4, 5-3) will look to start up another streak when they head to West Palm Beach to take on Palm Beach Atlantic (6-14)
on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for
5:30 p.m.
