Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In a double overtime thriller, the Eckerd College men's basketball team fell to No. 4 Barry University on Saturday night, 111-108.
Scoring started early and often for both sides. The Tritons won the tip and took the ball straight to the basket with
Shane Phillips laying it in for two. Each team answered the other ones score with a bucket of their own.
Kevin Walsh gave EC their second lead of the game with a three to go up 14-12.
Eckerd began to light up the scoreboard from three point land at the 10 minute mark. It started with
Jerrick Stevenson knocking down a trey from the corner pocket.
Keshawn Ingram followed him up by draining three consecutive shots from behind the line to give EC a 31-23 lead.
Ray Darnell was able to finish off the Tritons scoring in the first half sending them into the locker room with a 38-34 lead over the Bucs.
Stevenson quickly brought the fans back to their feet in the second half with a dunk on the Tritons first possession. Walsh proceeded to hit a three on the team's next trip down the court to go up 43-34. Eckerd continued to click on offense extending their lead to 17 up 77-60 with under seven minutes remaining in the game.
Barry continued to create opportunities and would not go away quietly. The Bucs went on a scoring spree over the span of three in a half minutes out scoring EC 19-3 and getting within one of Eckerd. Both teams managed to hit clutch shots down the stretch sending the game into overtime, tied at 88-88.
The Bucs took a 92-89 lead before Ingram hit two free throws bringing the Tritons within one. Stevenson hit a big shot from behind the three point line to give EC a 97-95 lead with less than a minute remaining. Barry's Adrien Gonzalez managed to hit a jumper to tie the game and send it into a second overtime.
Scoring four points to open the second OT, the Bucs took a 101-97 lead. Darnell hit two free throws to get his team within two.
Kendall Roberts picked the best time to grab his first points of the game knotting it up at 101-101. Barry then scored four unanswered points and went out in front 108-103. Eckerd trailed with seconds remaining, but were unable to get another shot off falling to Barry, 111-108.
Trevon Young walked away with a double-double totaling 21 points and 12 rebounds. Stevenson led EC in scoring dropping 23 points while pulling down five boards. Ingram, Walsh and Darnell all finished in double digits with 17, 16 and 10 points respectively.
The Tritons (9-8, 3-5) will take on Palm Beach Atlantic (7-9) on the road Wednesday. The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
