PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball program split two games Saturday, falling to the University of Bridgeport in game one before taking down Kentucky State in game two.

EC began day two with a tough matchup against Bridgeport as they fell in four sets.

The Purple Knights took sets one and two (26-24, 25-20) before the Tritons pulled away in the middle of set three (25-15) to push a fourth set. Eckerd fell in the fourth set (25-16) for their first loss of the season.

Ali McAlvany joined an exclusive club when she earned her 1,000th kill of her career during the match. McAlvany entered the contest sitting on 999 kills and didn't wait long as she reached the milestone in the first set.

"It really means a lot having reached this accomplishment," said McAlvany. "It reflects all of the support and encouragement I've received from my family, teammates and coaches these last few years."

The senior joins former teammates, Ariana Chinn and Lindsay Biggs, as the ninth member of the 1,000 kill club.

The Tritons came back to sweep Kentucky State in their final game of the weekend.

Katie Arnette scored the first point of set one and her team never gave up the lead on their way to winning the set (25-20). Down 9-5 in set two, EC went on an 8-1 run to take the lead and eventually the set (25-20). A team effort in the third set helped bring home the sweep (25-15).

Arnette finished the match with, a team leading, 14 points. Kaitlyn Sibson totaled 19 digs in the contest.

Emily Schadow combined with Gabriella Reis Guimaraes for 34 assists in the match.

Eckerd finished the Palm Beach Atlantic Hyatt Sunshine Classic going 3-1.

"I think this is a good starting place for us," said head coach, Michelle Piantadosi. "We executed a lot of the things we've worked on throughout the preseason. As a coaching staff we saw a few things we can work towards improving both offensively and defensively."

The Tritons will host seven teams, Friday and Saturday, for the Eckerd College Classic. EC will play their first match Friday at 3 p.m., as they take on the University of Mary.
