Tritons Shutout Hawks in Season Opener

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Eckerd College men's soccer team defeated Shorter University in their season opener, 3-0, to give head coach, Cristian Neagu, his first career win at the helm of the Tritons on Friday.

After a rigorous preseason, the men's soccer team was anxious to hit the pitch and get the season started.

Marcus Lohrmann put his team up in the 14th minute after a brilliant header with an assist coming off the foot of Jordan Lee.

Nick Jackson capitalized on a penalty kick four minutes later to give his team a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The two goals were more than enough as the defense stepped up allowing only one shot on goal in the first half.

Jackson put his second goal of the contest, also off a penalty kick, in the back of the net during the 56th minute.

Alex Gott and the Triton defense held strong to earn the shutout. For Gott, it was his first career start and shutout as he totaled five saves in the victory.

"I am very proud of our guys," said coach Neagu. "They've done everything I have asked of them. They executed the game plan to perfection and as a result we got a great win to start off the season."

EC will not have to wait long to get back on the grass with game number two of the weekend coming in Columbus, Ga. on Sunday. The Tritons will take on the University of Alabama – Huntsville with kickoff schedule for 1 p.m.
