Tritons Downed by Sharks

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball team came up on the losing end of a dramatic five set match to conference foe, Nova Southeastern, on Friday.

The Sharks (7-4, 2-0) jumped out in front of set one before the Tritons tied it up at 15-15. Six lead changes ensued before the teams were knotted up at 27 all.

NSU grabbed back-to-back points to clinch set one, 29-27.

The Tritons were in control in set two and three taking both sets 25-21, 25-14, respectively.

EC jumped out in front, 3-1, in set four before the Sharks took the lead and never relinquished it, taking the set 25-21.

The fifth and decisive set became a prize fight with both teams taking control at different points in the contest.

All tied up at 11-11, NSU was able to grab the next 4 out of 5 points to win the set and the match.

Ali McAlvany earned her second consecutive double-double with, a team high, 21 kills to go along with 17 digs.

Emily Schadow posted a career high in assists with 35 while Kaitlyn Sibson tallied 23 digs.

"We will back in the gym on Monday," said Head Coach, Michelle Piantadosi. "While we are in the gym we will work hard and continue to work on execution and get ready for our next match."

The Tritons move to 7-3, 0-2 on the season, but will return home this week to host Rollins College on Wednesday. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
