ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's team returned to the Turley Athletic Complex for the first time in over two weeks as it fell to No. 4 Saint Leo University, 9-0,
on Saturday.
The loss broke Eckerd's (4-10, 0-5 SSC) three-match win streak, while Saint Leo (15-3, 2-2 SSC) has now won its last eight matches as the regular season winds down to a close.
"All of the men competed tough today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. "Yosua had a solid performance today against a tough player in his singles match. We are looking forward to playing Rollins next week to get ready for the conference tournament."
In doubles action, Eckerd partners
Luke Burton and
Madison Durley fell in a closely-contested match, 8-6, against Ismail Lemtouni and Fons Verberne.
Both EC's
Yosua Adiyasa and
Frazier Springfield and
Stephen Felman and
Eddie Lewis fell 8-4 to Saint Leo's Bruno Sisti and Aloua Adjenak and Victor Lozier and Matt Nicholson-Lewis, respectively.
In singles play, the No. 19 (ITA South Region) ranked Adiyasa challenged Sisti in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 10-7 in favor of Sisti), picking up a 6-3 second set win, while the remainder of the Eckerd singles rotation fell in straight sets to the Lions.
Eckerd will play in its final match of the regular season at home against Rollins College
on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
