ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's tennis program put together a clean sweep to take care of business against West Chester (Pa.) University at the Turley Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon, 9-0.

A total of three sports brought down the Golden Rams (3-8, 0-0 PSAC) this week after the Eckerd baseball team won in extra innings and men's tennis pitched an identical shutout this afternoon.

The Tritons (5-7, 0-5 SSC) continued their surge in non-conference duals, winning their fourth non-Sunshine State Conference matchup in five tries during the month of March.

"We had a great win today and the effort from the women was awesome," said EC interim head coach Ben Maxwell. "Every one of them went out with a game plan and played great. It was a team effort to be able to go out and win 9-0."

Juniors Katie Benn and Amy Naula maintained their team-leading pace in the singles column, notching their seventh victories of the spring in single pro-set format scores.

Naula is a perfect 5-0 while playing the No. 5 spot in the rotation and Benn has an identical unbeaten mark of 5-0 at the No. 6 position in the singles lineup.

Together, they also combined to blank their respective opponent in doubles competition, 8-0.

Juniors Gipson Hawn and Carson Trapp and sisters Erika/Emily Fridrik compiled 8-6 and 8-3 wins in doubles action.

Hawn, Trapp and Erika Fridrik, each recorded straight-set wins as they accounted for the No. 1/2/3 spots in the singles lineup.

Emily Fridrik and Naula both polished off 8-1 convincing finals in their singles bouts to help contribute to the team's shutout.

Today's match marked the end of a four-dual homestand. Eckerd will head back to the Sunshine State Conference schedule later this week with an 11 a.m. showdown scheduled on Saturday against Rollins College in Winter Park.
