ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– Facing another nationally/regionally-ranked Sunshine State Conference opponent, the Eckerd College women's tennis team fell in a tough dual on a chilly Friday afternoon against No. 15/7 Nova Southeastern University, 9-0.

The Tritons (1-5, 0-4 SSC) were coming off their first win of the season earlier in the week against Hanover (Ind.) College as they temporarily stepped outside of the league slate.

The Sharks (4-3, 3-2 SSC) were led by the South Region's 12th-ranked player in singles competition, Alex Johansson to move above .500 in the SSC.

"The women had a tough conference match today," said EC interim head coach Ben Maxwell. "Everyone gave it their best and fought until the end. We are looking forward to an out-of-conference match against Warner (University) tomorrow. We will have a great chance to compete with them."

EC pitched the same familiar lineup in singles as the Sharks were able to claim straight-set decisions in all six matchups.

Junior Carson Trapp was able to emerge with four games in the second set against her opponent in the No. 2 singles draw, fighting to a 6-4 final against Sabrina Kierberg before bowing out.

Johansson combined to play the No. 2 doubles bout with Charlotte Cote. Both EC's pairings of Erika/Emily Fridrik and Katie Benn/Amy Naula in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were able to get two games each from their respective foes to open the afternoon.

Eckerd will have less than 24 hours before taking the courts again tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. for a non-conference contest against the Royals of The Sun Conference.
