ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College men's tennis program fell against No. 1 Barry University at the Turley Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon, 9-0.

The Tritons (0-4, 0-3 SSC) closed out a tough three-match Sunshine State Conference portion of their schedule against Barry (5-0, 2-0 SSC) and now turn their focus to three non-conference matches ahead.

To begin the spring, Eckerd has now faced three consecutive opponents all ranked in the top 26 of the ITA national team rankings (No. 4 Lynn University, No. 26 Florida Southern College and No. 1 Barry).

"We played the best team in the country today and everyone fought until the end," lauded EC interim head coach Ben Maxwell. "We are excited to have some conference matches coming up on the schedule that are winnable. The men will have the weekend to rest and then we will practice hard on Monday to get ready for our match on Tuesday."

The Buccaneers put together a singles sweep and also collected all three doubles victories.

Eckerd stuck with the same starting rotation in sophomore Yosua Adiyasa, sophomore Frazier Springfield, senior Nikita Valuiskikh, junior Stephen Felman, junior Luke Burton and freshman Eddie Lewis.

Adiyasa and Springfield competed in the No. 1 doubles slot and fell by an 8-3 decision to Ollie Lemaitre and Franco Echenique.
Felman and Valuiskikh worked the closest match on the day, falling 8-6 to Nico Dreer and Ahmed Triki.

The Tritons will return to the Turley Athletic Complex next Tuesday, Feb. 25, for a non-conference matchup against Hanover (Ind.) College beginning at 3 p.m.
