Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In their final action of 2014, the Eckerd College women's basketball team defeated Southwest Baptist University on Wednesday, 84-61.
A tightly contested start to the game had both teams playing aggressive on the court.
Rana Thomas gave the Tritons a 15-7 lead with a layup and the assist coming from
Ivana Grbic. SBU began to claw their way back into the game down 23-20.
The Bearcats took their second lead of the game with a three from Brook Duncan with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Jordyn Alexander tied the game up on the next possession knocking down an open jumper. Eckerd then ripped off an 18-2 run over the final four minutes leading up to halftime.
Back-to-back shots from three point land by Thomas, including a buzzer beater, sent EC into the locker room with a 45-31 lead. Eckerd shot 63 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
Trying to pull away early in the second half, the Tritons opened up on a 16-3 run to take a 61-34 lead. Eckerd held a 20 point or more lead throughout the final 17 minutes of play. EC came away with the 84-61 victory.
Thomas led the team with 18 points on the day including two deep three pointers. Grbic finished with 15 points while pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Trine Kasemagi and Alexander both end the game with double digit points with 14 and 13 respectively.
Eckerd (9-2, 0-1) will get back to SSC play beginning Saturday. The Tritons will host Nova Southeastern (8-2, 0-1) inside the McArthur Center with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. Â Â Â
