Box Score BOCA RATON Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball team came up on the wrong end of a three set battle, falling to Lynn University Friday night.
This was the second time this season that the two teams faced off. In their first matchup, Lynn (15-12, 8-8) took home the match in three sets but not before the Tritons took the first set into extra points.
Eckerd came out hot as
Ali McAlvany aced to get the first point of the match. The Tritons went on to take the next three points before Lynn came back to even the score. With EC trailing Lynn by three, the Fighting Knights took advantage of Eckerd's mistakes and rallied six unanswered points. The Tritons fought back but Lynn showed their strength taking home the first set, 25-16.
The second set was a back and forth battle as both teams were even until the
Lauryn Nelson slammed down a kill, sending the Tritons on a run tallying five points against the Knights. The Tritons held a strong lead before mistakes led to seven unanswered Lynn points. With the match tied up at 22-22, Lynn was able to gain momentum and steal set two, 25-23.
The Tritons and Knights went point for point in set three, as neither team could pull ahead.
Tjasa Kotnik continued her stellar junior campaign, slamming down a big kill giving the Tritons the advantage.
Kaitlyn Sibson contributed as well, racking up two more service aces, bringing the score to 16-15. The Knights came back to take the sweep and defeat the Tritons, 25-19.
Eckerd (12-17, 3-12) will partake in their last match of the 2014 campaign tomorrow as they will face Florida Tech (9-21, 1-14). The Panthers and Tritons met earlier this year with EC taking home the match in four sets. First serve is set for 3 p.m. tomorrow.
