Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Eckerd Volleyball team came out on the losing end of a three set battle against No. 17 Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon.
The Mocs jumped out to an early lead in set one and took down the Tritons, 25-16.
Lauryn Nelson grabbed a team high nine kills on the day as the Tritons fought until the end.
Set two was a closer match, as the FSC and Eckerd were neck and neck the entire match. Florida Southern was up on the Tritons by two points and then won the set, 25-20.
Gabriella Reis Guimaraes grabbed a team high 11 assists as
Emily Schadow was not far behind, notching 10 of her own.
The third set was also down to the final points of the match as both teams scrapped for the victory. The Mocs caused untimely errors to bring the score within two, but they battled back to take home the set and the match, 25-23.
Kaitlyn Sibson continued to show her strength from the back row as she recorded 17 digs.
The Tritons (12-14, 3-10) will have a tough week ahead of them as they head to No. 1 University of Tampa (23-1, 11-0) to take on the defending conference champions on Wednesday. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
