Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. – The first of four consecutive road games for the Eckerd College volleyball team started against Saint Leo University on Friday with the Tritons falling in three sets.
The Lions (18-8, 7-4) were able to jump out to a 7-0 run to begin the first set and EC could not recover falling, 25-16.
Set two became a one point game with SLU leading 12-11 before pulling away and taking their second set, 25-19.
Eckerd battled in set three desperately trying to push the match to a fourth set. The Tritons tied it up 22-22 with a big block from
Grace Jones and
Lauryn Nelson. The Lions then took three straight points to grab the set and the match.
Gabriella Reis Guimaraes fell two digs short of a double-double posting eight digs and 11 assists. With 10 assists and seven digs,
Emily Schadow also came close to double-double status.
Continuing her hot streak,
Tjasa Kotnik totaled 10 kills while teammate
Kaitlyn Sibson notched 16 digs.
The Tritons (12-13, 3-9) will continue their extended road trip against No. 17 Florida Southern College (18-5, 9-2) on Saturday. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
