Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – On late Monday afternoon, the Eckerd College men's soccer team secured a spot in the conference tournament by defeating Barry University, 3-1.
Tonight's match was a deciding factor in the SSC Tournament. For Eckerd, this game was a must win to move on.
In the 16
th minute,
Tyler Allen scored the Tritons first goal with a pass off of the foot of
Jordan Lee. The goal was Allen's first of the year.
A mere 2 minutes after the first goal,
Nick Murawski dribbled the ball through a plethora of defenders, driving the ball into the back of the net, and grabbing his fifth goal of the season.
The first half would see only two goals as both teams fought for the victory, knowing that the winner would advance.
In the 52
nd minute, Murawski took the ball towards the corner and drove a pass up and into the middle.
Richard Ainscough came flying through the air, heading the ball past the keeper for the third goal of the game and his third of the year.
The second half saw superb defensive plays by
Marcus Lohrmann,
Jordan Lee,
Adam Stephany, and
Jared Moelaart as they held off the Bucs.
In the 79
th minute, Barry was able to sneak one goal in bringing the score to 3-1.
With twelve minutes left in the contest,
Alex Gott made one of his best saves all year, pushing the ball up and over the crossbar to preserve the lead.
Gott grabbed seven saves on the night as he picked up his fourth win of the year.
The Tritons will finish out their regular season on the road as they are set to take on Flagler College on Wednesday. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
The win puts EC as the sixth seed in the tournament. The men will head to Florida Tech next Tuesday to take on the Panthers; time will be announced at a later date.
