Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In a dramatic four set match, the Eckerd College volleyball team showed their strength as they took down Nova Southeastern in four sets, 3-1.
Tjasa Kotnik had the game of her career as she nabbed her first ever double-double. The junior hit .314, as she recorded 22 kills on the night while grabbing 10 digs.
Eckerd set the tone in the first set as they came out strong and took down the sharks, 25-22.
Grace Jones was a powerhouse in the front row as she drove home 11 kills to hit an astounding .500.
Set two belonged to Nova as they took the lead early and never gave it up defeating EC, 25-19.
In the third set, Eckerd put on a dazzling offensive display, racking up 15 kills as a team and hitting .333, taking down the Sharks, 25-13.
Lauryn Nelson and
Mackenzie Redner each grabbed 11 and seven kills respectively.
Kaitlyn Sibson continued to shine from the libero position as she recorded 24 digs on the night.
Set four went down to the final point as both teams could taste the win. Eckerd defended their home court and took home the set as well as the match defeating Nova, 27-25.
Emily Schadow had a night to remember as she played the whole court and was a strong presence on both offense and defense. Schadow was two kills away from a triple-double as she posted eight kills, 17 digs, and 41 assists.
Gabriella Reis Guimaraes recorded three services aces and six digs playing in the back row.
"With girls playing in different positions, the entire team stepped up," said Head Coach,
Michelle Piantadosi. "Tonight is the most proud I have been all season. I can't single out just one girl because they all rallied around each other and played their hearts out."
The Tritons (12-10, 3-6) will host Barry (13-8, 3-5) on Saturday in their annual "Dig Pink" game for Breast Cancer Awareness. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
