Box Score TAMPA, Fla – A 110 minute defensive battle between the University of Tampa and the Eckerd College women's soccer team ended in a 0-0 tie Wednesday night.
With No. 25 Tampa recently breaking onto the National Soccer Coaches Associations of America (NSCAA) Women's Top 25, the Tritons were ready to prove their strength.
Defense was the name of the game as both teams fought in a grueling 120 minute battle to keep each other off the scoreboard.
Morgan Crescent put on one of the best performances of the year as she recorded 10 saves on the night.
Aided by phenomenal defense from
Shannon Estes-Larkin,
Elena Madrazo,
Leah Chisolm, and
Bekah Allen, the Tritons fought off 19 shots from the Spartans.
Tampa also rattled off nine corner kicks throughout the contest.
Michelle Spesshardt and
Katie Shafer also filled in the back, further assisting the defense.
Monique Elliott and
Arie Anahory were the only Tritons to fire off shots during the match as Tampa's defense proved why they are ranked.
"Our whole team played tough," said Head Coach,
Danielle Fotopoulos. "We are very excited to come away with a point on the road."
The Tritons (7-5-1, 3-2-1) will have two days to prepare for their next match. EC will head down to Fort Lauderdale to take on the Sharks of Nova Southeastern (5-6, 2-5) on Saturday. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
