Women’s Soccer Downed by Saint Leo, 5-0

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to Saint Leo University, 5-0, at the Saint Leo Soccer Field on Saturday night.

After 47 minutes of scoreless play, the Lions (4-3-0, 0-0-0 SSC) broke the game open with a goal by Arielle Kabangu on a corner kick. She was assisted by Mari Siegrist-Gabas and Ari Foreman.

The goal would not be Kabangu's lone goal of the night. In the final 15 minutes of the game, she notched two goals to secure a hat trick.

Genevieve Gignac added the second goal of the night in the 53rd minute when she headed in a goal. She was assisted by Kabangu.

Closing out the scoring plays for the Lions was Foreman assisted by Fabienne Schwenk. Foreman netted a goal in the 60th minute, sending the ball past EC goalkeeper Morgan Crescent after a collision.

The loss was just Eckerd's (5-2-0, 0-0-0 SSC) second on the season. Its first defeat came to No. 22 Rollins College on Sept. 21.

Saint Leo controlled the offensive tempo for the duration of the match, outshooting the Tritons 29 to three, including 15 shots on goal to Eckerd's two, and receiving 10 corner kicks to Eckerd's one.

Senior Erin Davis, sophomore Taylor Tippett and freshman Bekah Allen tallied the Tritons' three shots with Tippett and Allen making shots on goal.

Crescent tabbed a season-high 10 saves on the night.

The Tritons will look to rebound as they continue the season on the road at fourth-ranked University of Tampa on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST at Pepin Stadium in Tampa.
