ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –
The Eckerd College men's tennis program was dealt a tough loss against No. 15 NAIA nationally-ranked Warner University on Saturday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.

The Tritons (0-6, 0-4 SSC) were able to pick up singles victories in the form of freshman Frazier Springfield and sophomore Luke Burton against the Royals (3-1 overall), a member of The Sun Conference.

Springfield and Burton both defaulted against Chestnut Hill (Pa.) College earlier this week with the win already clinched for EC's opponent.

The Royals completed the sweep in doubles with finals of 8-2, 8-5 and 8-3, respectively.

Springfield and Burton both picked their first wins at Eckerd, doing so in different fashion in the No. 3 and No. 6 duels.

Springfield cruised in straight sets over Warner's Diogo Barros, 6-3, 6-2 and Burton bounced back from a second-set setback against Tiago Oliveira to emerge in a third-set tiebreak, 10-8.

Burton and Springfield also converged against Oliveira and Vitor Schepper in doubles action, falling in a closely-contested matchup, 8-5.

The Tritons will return to their home court a week from today against Ave Maria University with the match scheduled to start at noon.
