ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Eckerd College men's tennis newcomers
Frazier Springfield and
Luke Burton converged for a key doubles victory in the team's effort against Chestnut Hill (Pa.) College on Tuesday afternoon, 8-1.
After heavy rains pummeled the area earlier in the morning, the dual was underway as scheduled at the Turley Athletic Complex between the Tritons (0-5, 0-4 SSC) and Griffins (5-3, 0-0 CACC), also ranked 10th in the East Region.
Both men's and women's squads played to an 8 game pro-set format, or a race to win eight games.

Dylan Randazzo and sophomore
Stephen Felman each had early leads against Michael Humes and Yoann Pham, but the Chestnut Hill duo emerged with both singles wins from rallies.
Springfield and Burton held down their own at the No. 2 position in doubles, toppling A.J. Moore and Kevin Taylor, 9-7. The Griffins edged EC in other doubles matchups, 8-5 and 8-4, respectively.
With the match already decided, Springfield and Burton both defaulted in the No. 4 and No. 6 singles matchups to close the afternoon.
The Tritons' quest for their first win of the season continues on Saturday as they host NAIA-affiliated Warner University with the match projected to start at 11 a.m.
