Krystal Charles had another double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, as the Eckerd College women's basketball team completed the regular-season sweep over Barry University, 52-47, on Saturday evening.
Freshman
Annie Armstrong had nine points for the Tritons (11-10, 7-6 SSC), while sophomo
Taylor Bestry chipped in 8 points.
Eckerd shot 39 percent from the field and 15 percent from long range. The Tritons were able to hold Barry (12-10, 4-9 SSC) to 33 percent from the field and 28.8 percent from the arc.
Kaley Howard led the way for the Buccaneers with 12 points. Howard was one of three Buccaneers in double figures as Dominique Ixon had 11 and Colette Eule added 10.
The Tritons got out to a 6-0 lead to start the game and never let go of the lead to close it out. EC went up by 10, 32-22 at halftime. Charles and Bestry combined for 18 points and five rebounds in the first half
Barry came out of the locker room on a 7-0 run, but wasn't able to gain the lead. The Buccaneers brought the score within one with 9:16 remaining. But a layup by
Kayla Bowlin and two consecutive free throws by Charles separated the Tritons.
The Tritons got to the charity stripe 18 times and connected on 14 at 77.8 percent, while the Buccaneers were at the line 14 times missing just one at 92.9 percent.
A big three-pointer from Eule tied the game for the first time at 45-45 with 5:14 to play before Charles completed the and-one and a layup to give the Tritons a five-point led. Armstrong's jumper put the last points on the board with 42 seconds left on the clock to secure the victory for the Tritons.
The Tritons will return home on Wednesday with an SSC contest against Florida Southern College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
