WINTER PARK, Fla. – Sophomore forward
Devon Morse chalked up her fifth goal of the season for the silver lining to a chilly night as the Eckerd College women's soccer program was defeated by Rollins College on Saturday, 7-1.
The Tritons (7-8-0, 1-5-0 SSC) vaulted on top of the Tars (11-3-0, 5-1-0 SSC) temporarily in the first half following Morse's blast from 25 yards out past RC keeper Mary Spring.
Rollins stormed back and scored the game-tying shot less than four minutes later and managed to grab a 2-1 lead before the first 20 minutes of regulation was completed at Barker Family Stadium.
The Tars staked their claim to a 5-1 lead at halftime and would go on to score a pair of goals in the second half. Mackenzie Miller concluded the scoring in the 85th minute and assisted on two other Rollins goals.
Sophomore
Christina Rosetti made her first career start as EC's goalkeeper in place of junior
Morgan Crescent, recovering from an injury sustained against Nova Southeastern University earlier this week.
Rosetti, listed as a defender on the original roster, recorded seven saves in her first full complete game in goal. She saw over 46 minutes of playing time as a keeper for the first time against Florida College (Oct. 11).
Also making her first career start at the collegiate level was freshman midfielder
Morgan McMillen.
All four of Morse's shots on the night were on target, forcing Spring and Shelby Finch to make different saves.
Rollins held a 24-9 shot advantage on the night.
The Tritons will return to the Turley Athletic Complex on Tuesday for Senior Night at 7 p.m. against Saint Leo University.
