BOCA RATON, Fla.
– Yannick Braeuer scored two goals and assisted another as defending national champion Lynn University posted a Sunshine State Conference shutout against the Eckerd College men's soccer program on Wednesday afternoon, 7-0.

The Tritons (3-7-2, 1-2 SSC) had hopes of recreating the magic that propelled them past the Fighting Knights (6-4-1, 3-1 SSC) in the semifinals of the 2012 Florida Blue SSC Championship by virtue of penalty kicks in a shootout.

But this time around, Lynn was able to avenge memories from the last meeting and spread the offensive wealth around in both halves while taking 24 shots against Eckerd's three.

The Fighting Knights scored off of numerous set pieces as their height advantage at certain positions became a factor as the match progressed.

LU's Simon Gubisch netted a goal and helped on one more as six different players found the net, including Michael O'Neill, Javier Lopez Mochon, Chris Hellman and Issac Hamui.

Braeuer scored from the left side of the box 12 minutes into the match before a lane cleared for Gubisch after an Eckerd defender lost his footing on the field.

O'Neill would drive in a left-footed shot from 20 yards out for a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.

As the Fighting Knights rotated personnel in the second half, Braeuer and Lopez Mochon scored just two minutes apart. Hellman converted a free kick by bending the ball around a wall of defenders and Hamui crashed the box to receive a well-placed cross.

EC senior goalkeeper Toni Virtanen was under duress early, but stopped several hard shots fired at him to keep the score close in the early stages. He made six saves in the effort.

Junior forward Nick Murawski had EC's best look of the day with a header following a free kick that was pounded in the grass towards Kevin Shields in net. But the Lynn netminder was able to trap it on the ground before a second ball could shake loose for a deflection.

Murawski had two of the Tritons' three shots on the day and both were on goal.

The Tritons return to the Turley Athletic Complex on Saturday evening under the lights against the University of Tampa for Alumni Night. Eckerd and Tampa will clash again for the second time this fall after both teams met in a non-conference battle at Pepin Stadium.

Saturday's start time is set for 7:30 p.m. or following the completion of the women's matchup prior.
