Box Score
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Trailing by as many as 18 in the second half, the Eckerd College women's basketball program left little breathing room for Lynn University when the final buzzer sounded on Wednesday night, 63-57.
Junior center
Kristiana Stauere and senior forward
Krystal Charles each hit long three-point field goals from nearly the same spot on the wing inside 30 seconds to play to make it a one-possession game and put the home crowd on edge.
Charles banked in her high-arcing three in the final minute as part of a 15-point, 11-rebound effort for her fourth double-double of the season.
Stauere followed suit with just 10 seconds left to make it a three-point margin, but Lynn converted three free throws to put the game on ice.
Freshman guard
Annie Armstrong (ankle) returned from a four-game absence and picked up right where she left off, netting a team-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. She knocked down three field goals from beyond the arc.
Sophomore
Kayla Bowlin scored 10 points on perfect shooting to go with three rebounds and four assists while junior leading scorer
Liga Vente scored seven and pulled down nine rebounds.
Battling for important position in the Sunshine State Conference standings with the Fighting Knights (12-6, 5-3 SSC) tied at 4-3, the Tritons (8-8, 4-4 SSC) closed the first half of the league schedule at an even .500.
Just when it appeared the Fighting Knights were in cruise control following a Tylar Tracy three on the break with 12:18 to play for a 49-31 LU lead, the Tritons showed plenty of heart making their spirited comeback.
In a five-minute span, 10 consecutive points were dropped in by Armstrong with an array of moves (layup, three-point play, free throws, three-pointer) that put the Tritons within striking distance.
Armstrong ended her personal run and connected from long range in front of her team's bench in the corner for a three that made it 57-51 with 1:16 left.
The first half featured an assortment of runs for both sides, but an 8-1 streak by the Fighting Knights helped contribute to a 33-23 halftime advantage.
Lynn's Kira Harvey led all scorers with 18 points, including 10 makes at the charity stripe. Tifani Kerrison scored nine of her 12 in the first half while Tracy and Tashima Bailey each chipped in 11.
The Tritons will begin the second half of the SSC schedule this weekend at home, hosting Rollins College with a 2 p.m. scheduled tip in the McArthur Center on Saturday. EC defeated the Tars, then-ranked No. 10, earlier this season in Winter Park.
The third Triton Tailgate of the season will also be held during halftime of the women's contest where free food and beverage awaits at the pool adjacent to the McArthur Center. The event is free to all in attendance.
Tickets for the SSC Championship on March 6-10 in Kissimmee will be available for purchase at the front door on Saturday. Single-session tickets for the conference tourney in Silver Spurs Arena will be available for $8 while $48 presale booklets with a pass for each session can also be purchased.
