SAINT LEO, Fla. – Junior
Mark Lee continues to show his flair for the dramatic.
The dynamic, playmaking midfielder came through in the clutch again on Wednesday night, sending the Eckerd College men's soccer program past Saint Leo University in overtime, 1-0.
A rare double assist from sophomore forwards
Matt Dolan and
Nick Murawski allowed Lee to connect on a header, shooting the ball past Lions' goalkeeper Manuel Schoenhuber in the 92nd minute.
Schoenhuber's counterpart in net, Eckerd senior
Andrew Hoffer, pitched a four-save shutout as he handled 15 shots on the night.
Saint Leo held the final advantage in the shot department, 15-8.
For Lee, it marked another act of heroism after he pushed the Tritons (3-4-1, 1-1-1 SSC) past then-No. 18 Clayton State (Ga.) University with a double-overtime game winner earlier this season.
The resulting sweep against the Lions (4-3, 2-3 SSC) sent the Saint Leo fans home unhappy after the EC women opened the night with a 2-1 victory.
It turned out to be a physical battle in a scoreless first half after a combined 11 shots were fired. A total of three yellow cards were handed out in the first 45 minutes of play.
EC was outshot 10-1 in the second half, but held strong as Saint Leo applied pressure towards the end of regulation.
The Tritons picked up their first victory and first three points in the Sunshine State Conference standings after tying Florida Tech and falling against No. 7 University of Tampa.
The Tritons will head back home to prepare for a Saturday conference matchup against Barry University.
Live stats and video/audio will be streamed live during the conference contest, which begins at 5 p.m. to segway into the women's game.
