ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College men's and women's tennis programs could not keep up with the Columbus State University squads Thursday afternoon, as both teams fell by a 9-0 decision at the Turley Athletic Facility.
"CSU was very tough, I think we all underestimated this team," EC assistant coach
Ben Maxwell said. They came out ready to play today and they took it to us, plain and simple."
"The men and women are all still inexperienced and to come out and play an experienced team such as CSU is a very tough thing to do, but I am very happy with everyones effort, as always, they came out with a positive attitude."
On the women's side freshman
Gipson Hawn won six sets as she fell to CSU junior Carolin Weikard 6-2, 6-4. However, in doubles play the Hawn and freshman teammate Erika Fridrick did not fair as well, as they lost 8-0 to CSU's top doubles team of Weikard and senior Milica Tomic 8-0.

Stephen Felman fought hard against CSU's men's No.1-doubles team but fell 8-4.
"We will continue to work on the things we need to work on in practice, we have a lot more matches to play and I know more and more positive will come out of every match," Maxwell said. "I am excited to see the difference in everyones game by the end of the season."
The Eckerd College women's tennis team will play host to Nova Southeastern University this Saturday, March 10 at 10 a.m. The Eckerd College men's tennis team will play host to Bentley (Mass.) University this Sunday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at the Turley Athletic Facility.
