Men’s Tennis Downed Against Palm Beach Atlantic University, 6-3

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –
Freshmen Stephen Felman and Robby Breece provided impressive wins in the singles column for the Eckerd College men's tennis program on a hot Saturday afternoon, but Palm Beach Atlantic University eventually prevailed, 6-3.

The Tritons (0-12 overall) also claimed a win in doubles competition (Breece and Ben Levy) against the Sailfish (5-8 overall) in a closely-contested regional contest.

“I'm proud of the fight we gave a good program,” EC assistant coach Ben Maxwell said. “Robby was focused until it was his turn to play and he was one of the last matches on the court. Stephen stayed focused and was able to get a great win under his belt.”

Felman avenged a loss in the shortened fall season against PBA's Giuseppe Guarnieri and claimed a third-set tiebreaker after losing ground early in the head-to-head matchup. He beat Guarnieri, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (3) in a well-challenged No. 3 singles duel.

Breece also sealed the deal with a tiebreak in the No. 6 singles matchup pitting him against Nick Hines. He beat Hines in the first set, 6-4, and eliminated his opponent in the next frame.

Breece also completed his personal sweep against the Sailfish with a triumph in doubles with his partner Levy. Together, they took down Hines and Jaime Verd, 8-5.

The Tritons resume play during Spring Break next Tuesday at home by welcoming Merrimack (Mass.) College for a 3 p.m. non-conference contest.
